- What are premarket movers?
- Premarket movers are the stocks with the biggest price change during the premarket session (4:00-9:30 AM ET), before the regular market opens. This page ranks the top premarket gainers and losers by their gap versus the prior day's close, from Friday, Sep 11, filtered to liquid names (price of $1+ and at least $100K in premarket dollar volume) and split-adjusted.
- What time is the premarket session?
- The US premarket session runs from 4:00 AM to 9:30 AM ET, before the regular session opens at 9:30 AM. Most premarket volume clusters in the last hour (8:30-9:30 AM ET), often driven by earnings, news, or analyst actions released before the open.
- Why do stocks move in premarket?
- The most common catalysts are earnings reports, guidance changes, FDA/clinical news, analyst upgrades or downgrades, mergers, and macro data. Because premarket volume is thinner than regular hours, prices can gap sharply, and a premarket move does not always hold once the regular session opens.
- Can I trade stocks in premarket?
- Yes, most brokers allow premarket trading during set hours, but be aware of the risks: wider bid-ask spreads, lower liquidity, and larger price swings than regular hours. Always use limit orders in the premarket. This page is information, not investment advice.
