Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about today’s most overbought stocks by RSI on TheDesperateTrader.
- What are the most overbought stocks today?
- The most overbought stocks are those with the highest 14-day RSI (relative strength index), ranked from Friday, Jul 17. An RSI above 70 is the classic "overbought" threshold: the stock has risen fast relative to its recent range, which traders watch as extended and prone to a pause, pullback, or profit-taking.
- What does overbought mean, and should I short it?
- Overbought means momentum is stretched to the upside, not that a stock is a guaranteed short. Strong stocks can stay overbought for a long time in an uptrend. Traders use a high RSI as a caution flag: tighten stops, watch for exhaustion, or wait for a pullback rather than chasing. It is a signal, not a trade on its own.
- How is this list filtered?
- We compute RSI(14) from daily closes across every U.S. stock, then keep only liquid names (price of $1+ and at least $1M in dollar volume in the latest session). Results are ranked by dollar volume and update daily. The opposite extreme, oversold stocks with RSI below 30, is on our oversold page.
