About TheDesperateTrader
TheDesperateTrader is two things at once: a real-time market data platform for active traders, and a small research desk that writes up what the data shows.
What we publish
Two kinds of writing, both under the same standard. News covers a move as it happens and explains what drove it. Due diligence is longer work on a single company, usually after an unexplained price move, built from that company's own filings.
These pieces are frequently written the same day a stock moves, and they are updated when the facts change. Every article shows its publication date, its author, and how the stock has traded since it went out, so a call that aged badly stays visible rather than quietly disappearing.
Where the information comes from
SEC filings, read directly
Our research works from primary documents on EDGAR: 20-F and 10-K annual reports, 6-K and 8-K current reports, Schedule 13G and 13D ownership filings, and Forms 3, 4 and 5. We quote the filing and link it, so any claim can be checked at source.
Our own market data
Prices, volume, VWAP, relative volume and halt records come from the same real-time pipeline that runs the scanner, not from a screenshot of someone else's chart. Intraday work is done on minute-resolution bars.
Measured, not asserted
Where a piece makes a claim about how a stock behaved, the number behind it was computed from the tape and is stated with its as-of date. Where we could not verify something, the piece says so instead of leaving it out.
How we work
- Every number is traced to a primary source. Not to a secondary article, and not to memory. Research pieces carry a reference list linking the exact filings used.
- We state what we could not verify. A named uncertainty is more useful to a reader than a confident gap.
- We separate mechanism from motive. Describing what a contract rewards is not the same as claiming somebody acted on it, and our pieces keep those apart deliberately.
- Corrections are public. When we get something wrong we fix it and say what changed. See our corrections policy.
On automation, plainly
Parts of this site are generated automatically: the scanners, the daily market recaps, the per-symbol pages and the AI trading agents. That work is data reporting and it is labelled as such. Our news and due-diligence articles are researched and written by a person, with software used for measurement and drafting the way any desk uses a spreadsheet. Where an article relies on our own platform's measurements, it says so in its sources note.
