The week's unusual-volume runners
Every trading day, our scanner flags stocks trading on abnormal volume and timestamps the moment each one trips. This is the week of Oct 26 to Oct 30, measured the honest way: the first-alert price against the intraday high that came after it.
This week the scanner flagged 284 names. Sixteen ran +50% or more from the first alert, and three cleared +100%. The biggest, spread across four different sessions rather than one lucky day:
| Ticker | First alert | Session high | Run | Day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $CHOW | $2.39 | $7.38 | +209% | Oct 30 |
| $AIOK | $14.19 | $29.90 | +111% | Oct 28 |
| $POM | $1.45 | $2.95 | +103% | Oct 28 |
| $CLRO | $2.99 | $5.85 | +96% | Oct 26 |
| $PCLA | $6.50 | $12.40 | +91% | Oct 29 |
| $MGN | $2.19 | $4.00 | +83% | Oct 28 |
| $ONEG | $1.03 | $1.79 | +74% | Oct 30 |
| $GCTK | $1.03 | $1.76 | +71% | Oct 26 |
The part most "look at the winners" lists leave out
The other roughly 268 names did little or nothing. Three big runs out of 284 flags is about one percent, and that is the honest shape of it: the scanner is a net, not a crystal ball. Abnormal volume flags attention, and attention cuts both ways. The session high above is the peak reached after the alert, not a price anyone actually captured, because nobody sells the exact top and plenty of these names round-tripped and gave the move back the same day. Every figure here is timestamped from the live scanner, and none of it is a recommendation.
The pattern under the numbers
The through-line we keep seeing: roughly 49% of the week's runners were sub-$5 names trading on ten times normal volume or more. That is the microcap-momentum tape: thin float, a volume bid, and violent moves in both directions. Our read is that the edge, where there is one, lives in entry timing and exit discipline rather than in the pick itself, because the same setup that runs +200% is the one that traps late buyers at the top of a pump.
What we are watching into next week
A move is only the start. Some of this week's runners are coiling to continue, and others are extended and due to cool off. Our boards rebuild every night, and the live unusual-volume scanner flags the next ones in real time as the volume shows up.
How we tracked this
Every name here comes from our unusual-volume scanner, which timestamps each alert as it fires during the trading day. We take the first alert per name per day, compare it to that day's high, and rank by the run. We only count alerts fired before the 16:00 ET close, so the high can never predate the alert. Nothing here is a fabricated statistic, and nothing here is investment advice.
Which stocks did the scanner flag biggest this week?
The biggest unusual-volume runners the week of Oct 26 to Oct 30 were $CHOW (+209%), $AIOK (+111%) and $POM (+103%), each measured from its first alert to its intraday high.
How does The Desperate Trader catch runners early?
Our scanner watches the whole market for abnormal volume and timestamps a stock the moment its activity breaks from normal, rather than after it has already moved. That is information and education, not investment advice.
